Dear Participant,

Before filling out this form, on behalf of everyone from Hiking Heroes, we thank you for sharing your talents with not only us, but the world as well. Without you, this writing competition would not be possible, and we are grateful that you chose to spend your time working towards a submission for this competition

Since its inception, Hiking Heroes has stood for environmental and humanitarian justice: We believe that it is up to the youth to become trailblazers in reform that the world greatly needs. As the future, it is our responsibility to spread awareness about global issues and direct effort towards causes to tackle such crises. From hiking local trails in the DMV to raising over $10,000 total dollars towards humanitarian and environmental charities, we strive to make a difference in our actions, no matter how small. In the same way, we urge you to do your utmost in order to help us change the world; everyone can contribute to cleaning the environment, regardless of how minuscule the act is. Whether it be simply recycling the next plastic application you use, or turning off the light after you leave the house, it is the culmination of all our endeavors that make this cause, this movement, remarkable.

With that being said, we as Hiking Heroes hope that through this competition you discover more issues and even more potential solutions, but most importantly, the resolve to act upon your knowledge, for indifference is not a beginning, it is an end. Let this be an opportunity to expand your horizons, developing yourself as a writer and individual, and we cannot wait to see the exceptional work you all choose to submit.

Wishing you the best of luck,

Evan and Joshua Lee, Co-Presidents of Hiking Heroes
